In the Forum - Exercise for a 13-Year-Old

Follow me on:

One forum member wants to know how to get her young daughter to exercise. She asks: "I wondered if [Winsor Pilates] might help my 13 year old daughter. She seems to be interested in exercise but she doesn't want to do the things that I do." What do you think? Should teenagers do Pilates? Would a young person even enjoy it? Heyy i am 13 and i do dance twice a week and rounders and a little bit of running but thats only in pe i am trying to find a sport that has alot of exercise involved but something that i will enjoy at the same time any ideas? .x

Im 13 and I am a boxer.I go to the gym 4 times a week. We are training for the junior olympics and it keeps me in good shape. But I work on stomach muscle a lot and do it every day and i see no improvements. What do I do?

hey im 13 and i do crawl-ups(i think there called that) There when you do 1 push up, stand up, then 2 push ups, stand ups, then 3, stand up, and so on until you get to 10. It really helps with your abs and arm muscles!

my daugter is 13 and she is very pitte she is “4,10″ and about 80 pounds i know that might seem like tiny!! but she is always concious of her extra meat around her mid section and she wont wear bikinis because she has that baby fat left she has dieted and worked out but never consistant? what should my daughter do?

i am 13 and am very consered about my weight. i am about 5 ft 1 in and weigh aroud 94 lbs. i have huge hips and hae to wear shorts or bathing suits because of that and because i have really musclular. legs i dont like my body

I’m Rachel and 13 years old. I don’t mean this as an offense but most kids my age like different workouts than their moms. But my mom and I do exercise together sometimes. I live in Florida and with the hot weather year round, I like the gym a lot. Most gyms offer discounts to teens. Take some classes with her like a dance work-out and yoga! But if you’d rather not spend money, a nice morning jog around the neighborhood can get your heart rate up and gives you more energy for the rest of the day. And if you don’t have a pool, go to the local one and bring some of her friends along! That’s a great way to stay cool, have fun, and swim (great form of exercise!). Also, does she have an iPod or MP3 player? If so, give her about $25 to spend on music for it. I love listening to the current songs on the radio (4 minutes, pocket full of sunshine, apologize, i kissed a girl) while I work out. It actually motivates me! Good luck!

im 13, 92 pounds and i do swimming 4-5 times a week. i also do track in the fall and spring, tennis in the summer, and skiing in the winter. have your daughter do a sport she enjoys, and find a coach. i realized its hard to force myself to excersize, and i work better with my coach, since i listen when they tell me to do something, even when its hard!

I’m 13 and i workout 6 times a day from 4:30 pm-6pm on week days after school and from 2pm-5pm. I’m a swimmer; i swim 1,775 yards [1 mile/1.6 kilometers] on weekdays and i swim about 2,500 yards [1.42 miles] on weekends. If the pool is closed or i don’t feel like swimming, i go to the gym and i begin gym weight room. I start out with stretching, then i go on the cycling bike for 30 mins; my daily cycling goal is to cycle at 3 mins per mile and 10 miles in 30 mins or less,[a great leg workout!]. Then i do around 50 crunches and then 5 pull ups. then i work on back and ab muscles. i dont 30 leg lifts and build on my quads. then i do 50 pushups with a 30 sec break between a set of 10. i then do 10 more pullups and 30 squats. i finish my workout by running a mile.

No you are not fat and it depends how tall you are too. If you think your fat and you wanna get some abs, your gonna have to do about 150 sit ups a day, but take a break in between when you need to. If you can keep it up for a long time every day you might get some visible abs around 6 months or 1 year tops.

mostly when probloms like this occur its best not to force her to do these things but what you should do is tell her just to get up and run to the end of the block or even just get up get dressed for work and just go to the mailbox just to get her used to this.then she will probably start running on her own i had problams with this with my kid

im 13 years old. i play soccer year round and 5 or 6 days a week i do my own little program… alls you need is 2 5lb weights…
20 supermans(with weights)x3
reverse crunches x3
20 bench presses (with weights) x3
20 squats x3
20 side arm lifts (with weights)x3
20 crunches x3
20 push ups x3
crawl ups until i reach 10
20 lunges x3
20 leg lifts x3
then i run a mile and lift weights

gurl i know wut yur going thruogh. iv been overwieht since i could remeber and im 16 and way 160. im still somewut overwiehgt but u dont have to go on a diet. wut helped me was cutting back (or smaller proportion) on wut i ate but still eating th same things. you can also take maybe a 1/2 and hour to an hour walk around your neighborhood with a friend or a family member. i dont have asma but ive moved so much thruogh out my life that one time i went to school for only a week so i can never sighn up fur a sport cuz i never know if im gonna be able to do it.=)=)

I am 13 and I own a total gym and a weightset, so its a little different for me. starting off i do crunches, situps, crunches, dips, pushups, and pullups, I do around 150 each, then i work on legs, shoulders, biceps, triceps, and petty much anything in the book i am interested in. then i finish with some curls but remember, when it comes to weights, always go at your own pace. I curl 20 pounds, but i have prior training I started at 5 pounds and worked my way up so never try and lift too much

m 13 years old, I’ve looked in magazines, how to get a flat stomach i wanna start the exersises but i can’t i forget, i am not so fat , but i really need a flat stomach i know i am just too small to think about these things, but i just want to be like the women in the magazines their bodies are amazing. i mean who doesn’t wish to have a flat stomach !

I agree with this material. Good tips. I just want to add some tips from me, very basic. I think that the biggest problem with getting flat stomach is that people often do not continue doing exercises or keeping diet. It is very much in our brain. We would like to have it flat but it is hard to sacrifice for it. And even if one get it then often do not maintain it so after couple of months everything is as before.

well im 13 soon 14 and ive been hitting the wii ALOT i makes a huge diff and for anyone that does situps STOP jackknives TWICE as more effective

i do a hour every day or more when ever i feel its enough i do 100 jackknives and wall pushups about 50 pressups and sidestands everything that targets abs tummy biceps and triceps and also waitsline wii realy does alot bettter than a gym believe me

Hey, I’m 13 and 5’5. I weigh around 107 lbs. I think exercising should be fun to your teens. If they don’t find running, pilates, or even going to the gym appealing, then find some sports that they will enjoy while they are exercising. This way, your kids won’t feel like exercising is a burden or something. They will have fun and enjoy it! That’s the easiest way to get results. Also, remind them to eat a healthy diet and encourage them.

Well I just currently turned 13 & i weigh about 138 pounds… Yeah I kno I’m fat but i dnt know what to do! I hav swimming classes twice a week but I don’t see any difference I try not to eat out alot & it’s been working.. Everybody in my family is skinny & I’m tired of being the fat one! I can’t go outside & run around the neighborhood because my mom doesn’t let me leave the house… I need HELP!

I’m 12 turning 13 soon, I weight 45- 50 kg, depending on when I check, I like the way I look, but I want to lose my fairly fat belly and Thigh Fat. I can do a maximum of 30 push ups in one go, but I’m not sure if it’s working. Any suggestions?

i am 12 and i do 53 situps 42 pushups and run around a block 4 times. that work out will get you in shape really fast and rase your estamana i have quit large arms and a 6 pack also large lats so i highly recommend this exercise.

hey! im 13 , 5ft.1ish and weigh 120. i joined a gym with my mom and do classes/weights and stuff like that. i never considered myself ‘fat’ but recently people younger than me have been telling people that i’ve gained lots of weight, but i havent!! anyways, i enjoy doing zumba, its really fun. however, i really want to have a flat stomach! i want to be able to wear tank tops and bikinis and tshirts all through the summer! i would LOVE to have abs , but i just want to be able to feel myself again, i had a 6 pack when i was 6, from doing gymnastics 4 nights a week. i want to be able to feel athletic and proud of my body. help? :/

Im 13, my names Calli and i run on a treadmill for 30 minutes 5 days a week and i ride an exericse bike 4 days a week for 45 minutes. im 5’5 and weigh 130lbs but i look alot thinner because all i am is muscle. a good/ hard/ fun way to get in shape is P90X, i did the lean and classic versions and lost a bunch of weight/ inches and followed the nutrition plan(:

i was 123 pounds when i was 11 and i wanted to be smaller so i jogged for 15 min. a day and gradually increased it to 35 min. i all so did a workout for my abs. try yoga it helped with calming me down after a workout and after a fight with my brother! haha i still do the same workout and now i weigh 83 pounds i all so have been doing gymnactics for a few months and being light and strong helps trust me!!!

i am 13 and i cheer at the most 17 hours a week but sometimes less or more. I exercise constantly I do everything to stay fit and healthy. Also i used to do competition gymnastics which took working out to a knew extreme for me when i was in fourth grade so i always knew what to do to stay fit and healthy!!!!

Hi, I’m Lexie. I have gym 5 times a week 45 min every day exept Tuesday 4 my good behavior I get an hour and 15 min one great exercise for your gut is to do sit UPS meaning hands stay behind your ears is say 20 as u get more advance but start out with less like 7 then 9 then add one till u get to 20 (personally I’m at 52 in to min) then lay on your back spread out your arms and push up your legs to around your rib area legs and knees toghether for it lower belly then stay in the say place but put your feet to the ground and knees level and bend side to side and the space between you thumb and pointer rigged your heal do this back and forth like 40 times 20 right 20 left
