In the Forum - Getting a Good Workout

Monday July 17, 2006
Recently, one forum member wanted to know: "While I realize I must change my rountine...I tried step class and kickboxing classes - But it seems to me its not 'as cardio' as a spin class...Do I keep incorporating new classes even if I dont feel like Im getting as good as a cardio workout?"

One thing I've learned over the years is that exercise isn't just about burning calories. Many exercisers find that, when they focus on variety and enjoyment, they get a more balanced experience with exercise which keeps them motivated and happy. What do you think? Should this forum member forgo new activities just because they aren't as intense? Come join the discussion and tell us what you think.

I think you should definately keep trying the new class’s even if you feel thay aren’t working you as hard. I found that sometimes you have to do a few classes to get a hang of the technique first, after you’ve mastered that you’ll spend less time on the actual moves and you’ll find that i’ll work you harder as the moves come more easily with out thought, if that makes sense. Another great thing about doing classes that i’ve found is that it avoides monotony. Hope that makes sense and helps.
