How to Use a Medicine Ball

Monday July 31, 2006
When I realized a few years ago that medicine balls were making a comeback, I was skeptical. After all, I remember those giant leather balls being beamed at me from P.E. class (yes, I'm old) and I had no desire to go back to that kind of exercise. But, these days, medicine balls come in different sizes and even different textures - some are small and hard and others are soft so they're easier to hold on to.

The main question is - what exactly do you do with a medicine ball? One easy way to incorporate it into your workouts is to use it during abdominal training. When you're doing a crunch, hold the ball up over your head to add intensity. You can also squeeze a medicine ball between your knees while doing squats to add more inner thigh work. Those are just a couple of ideas and if you'd like to learn more check out my article, Abs, Hips & Thighs on the Ball and then try this workout which includes both an exercise ball and a medicine ball for a challenging workout.
