Around About

Friday December 1, 2006
Looking out my window at the huge quantity of snow that fell around Chicagoland last night, I'm tempted to go back to bed since getting out is out of the question. Unfortunately, that snow won't shovel itself but, before I get started on that little project, I'm going to do something a little more fun...checking out what other Health & Fitness Guides have been writing about:

Pilates Gift Ideas. My sister is really into Pilates, so it's great to see Marguerite's great gift guide for Pilates enthusiasts. You'll find some great video ideas here as well as workout gear and clothes.

What's Your Walking Music Mix?. I'm always in the market for good workout music and Wendy's links offer some great ideas for pumping up your workouts.

Stress Relievers for Busy People. This time of year always gets people crazy...I know this because I've seen more parking-lot altercations than I care to discuss. If you're shopping and stressing out over it, this article offers some simple tips for calming yourself down.

Pose of the Week - Plow Pose. If you can do this pose (and I highly recommend you modify this with bent knees if you've never tried it), it's a great way to stretch out your back and relieve some tension. I actually like to do this one by propping my feet on a step rather than trying to reach the floor.

I was just wondering how to exercise when it’s so cold outside. We’re in Las Vegas (no weather complaints - just quality of life for us and our 3 children), and we’re just thinking about moving to Crystal Lake, Il, because my husband’s company’s main office is there. I typed in “exercise” and your article popped up. Just thought it was funny. Thanks :)

You have a few choices for winter exercise in Illinois - you can either get lots of warm clothes and exercise outside (running, walking, cross-country skiing, etc.), you can try home workouts (they have great videos at www.collagevideo.com) or you can join a gym - or do all three. I personally workout inside throughout the winter, but I get cold when the temperature drops below 80 degrees. If you decide to move to this area, I’d wait until summer. :-)
