Yoga on the Ball

Thursday December 7, 2006
One of the first yoga classes I ever attended was a very traditional form of yoga. There was chanting, there were long sections of just sitting and breathing and then there were intricate, pretzel-like poses that everyone else seemed to be able to do except me. In fact, several times I found myself staring in awe as people did various things...like standing on one leg and putting the other foot behind their heads. Ouch.

That could've killed my yoga experience, but I stuck with, finding that there were a number of different types of yoga I could practice where I didn't have to have the flexibility of a rubber band. These days, one of my favorite versions of yoga involves a stability ball. Incorporating a stability ball into different yoga poses can add support so you can get something out of the movements even if your flexibility or endurance isn't quite there yet.

If you want a more supportive yoga workout (though certainly not easy), check out my new Yoga on the Ball Workout which shows a variety of yoga-like moves with the support of a stability ball. You can also find more workouts in my Yoga, Pilates and Flexibility section.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I am helping a young lady lose weight with a body building plan. Work body parts three times a week, with abs and a 20 minute cadio before each work out. But I felt a good stretch program could be helpful. I thought of a yoga workout, but this routine is what works well.Especially with a beginner. thanks for the routine.

Glad you like it! I’ve found this a great way to introduce yoga to my beginner clients who find some of the yoga poses challenging or just confusing.
