More Reviews: The Secrets of Skinny Chicks, Sansa e200R MP3 Player, and The Fitness Challenge

Thursday December 14, 2006
If you're still looking for holiday gifts for yourself or a loved one (and I'm a firm believer that you only find things you need and want when you're shopping for someone else), I have a few more ideas for you.

First, The Secrets of Skinny Chicks is a pretty good book, despite it's name, detailing the secrets of what the author calls 'skinny chicks' or women who work hard at exercise and healthy eating to maintain their weight. The secrets she reveals aren't all that earth-shattering, but the book is well-written and easy to read. Only give this as a gift if you know the person wants it (wouldn't want to make her mad, right?).

An even better gift idea is the Sansa e200R MP3 Player which is a nice little MP3 player with features that are perfect for exercisers.

Finally, there's The Fitness Challenge, a fun board game that pits two people against each other to exercise for 8 weeks. This is a great idea for couples who want to get in shape together, but want to add some friendly competition and motivation to the mix.

Coming from experience - until you are in balance with yourself inside (meaning mind and spiritually) the outside will seem like a chore and never will you be satisfied. So before you start another dreaded “workout plan” get in touch with you and find some peace there first and everything on the physical side will seem to fall together with a renewed energy. But I found that I must be diligent about all of it.

Yoga……yoga is the answer to finding the inner peace and ambition. Doing yoga even once a week along with other workout plans, I swear, will give you motivation. It’s a different motivation, it comes from within. And don’t go to an easy, breezy, relaxing yoga class. Find one, and an instructor, that is going to work you. Think ashtanga yoga, or even a variation of Bikram yoga.

I have the Sansa e200R and HIGHLY recommend it. It never skips (even when running), the sound quality is excellent and it’s easy to use. You can transfer songs right from your Windows Media player, so it’s much easier than the iPod software. Plus, it’s not an Apple product!!

I bought my daughters-in-law Belly Dancing Kits from Barns & Noble. They came with a book, CD, zills (finger cymbols) and a belly jewel. All that for $10.50 … I hope they take it in the spirit intended.
I just bought “You and Your Diet” as seen on PBS.

Personally, when I’ve incorporated yoga into my exercise routine (relaxing or Bikram style) I tend to slack on the rest of my work out. It’s too much for me. I get a better work out by leaving space for what I feel up to. Some days I bike, run, swim, and do some weights. Other days I speed walk a half a mile or lift a few weights and call it good. And then sometimes I take a day off if I’m feeling really lazy. It works well for me because I don’t feel the pressure and thus don’t feel like a failure if I decide I’m too tired one day to do it. I actually get better results from this method than from other routines I’ve tried. :) To each their own. Peace. (PS Yoga is great!!!)

I agree that doing Yoga can sometimes make you feel so relaxed and happy inside that you may slack on doing strength and cardio workouts, but it’s a balance that each person needs to find. However, especially for people who have a hard time sticking to a more strenuous routine, yoga is awesome because you see results within just 2 or three sessions. By results I mean you are able to hold the poses longer, or reach farther or whatever, not neccissarily results on the scale or in your clothes- but they are results none the less, and it keeps me motivated. Now if I could just get my husband to try it….

I swear by this book! It teaches you to live a healthy lifestyle instead of dangerous dieting. I have been following my healthy eating guide I made for myself after reviewing what the “skinny chicks” that are profiled in this book eat. I eat 4 small meals a day that are high in protien and low in calories and count all the calories I eat, and then eat a normal dinner, in moderation of course! I havent even started working out and I have already droped 5 pouns in about 2 week. Oh yeah I also stoped drinking beer… HA! Maybe thats just it!
