Gentle Winter Workouts
But, since most of us can't run away from home, we must find a way to endure and we also have to keep reminding ourselves how important exercise is, now more than ever. This is a critical time for us exercisers - many of us are stuck inside and are already getting bored with indoor workouts and we're also more attached to our couches - mine is next to the fireplace and provides a comfy place to sit while waiting for spring.
But, it's now that we need to keep moving - not only to keep our spirits up, but to keep the weight in check for the coming spring (and it WILL come!). If you're at the end of your rope, check out these simple workouts for getting your body moving. You can use these workouts to warm up for more intense exercise or as a way to stay active on days when you really don't want to workout.
Daily Yoga Stretches. Ann Pizer offers some soothing yoga poses that simply make you feel good. Light some candles, turn off the lights, turn up the heat and spend a few minutes feeling warm and relaxed.
Sequental Breathing Exercise. In Pilates as well in other disciplines (like yoga), the breath is essential for getting the most out of the movements. This breathing exercise teaches you the Pilates breath and, best of all, is a great way to relax and forget for awhile how cold it is outside.
Health Walk. This time of year, I find it tough to get motivated for high intensity workouts. One reason is that it takes longer to get warmed up and feel the endorphins start to flow. I love Wendy's Health Walk, which is a simple, straightforward workout where you stay in your comfort zone. On days when exercise is the last thing I feel like doing, I slap on my headphones and do this workout.
Beginner Ball Workout. I love this simple workout. It keeps me more active throughout the day and it feels good. I especially love this one for warming up for a workout or cooling down.
