Choosing and Using Resistance Bands

Wednesday May 2, 2007
Today we're discussing resistance bands, mostly because I've received a few emails from people asking me what the heck they're supposed to do with these strange and exotic bands that seem to do nothing more than sit in the corner, gathering dust.

For me, resistance bands aren't the foundation of most of my strength workouts. But, I do find I enjoy using them in addition to free weights and machines because they offer something a little different. Bands offer constant tension throughout strength moves, which fires the muscles in a different way and adds a new kind of challenge. I've also created a new Resistance Band Workout for Beginners showing some of the common exercises you can do with bands and don't forget to check out one of our newest videos which details thigh exercises with a resistance band.

I always thought about using Resistance Bands instead of weights, since I’m not trying to gain any more weight, or increase muscles mass, it’s a good way to spice up the training.
