Vote in This Week's Poll: When did you start to see results from your exercise program?

Monday May 7, 2007
The most frequent question I get, both from my clients and my readers is: When will I see results? It's impossible to answer that question with my crystal ball on the fritz and because there's just no way to know exactly how much weight a personal will lose or when. There are so many factors involved when it comes to weight loss, many of which we can't measure and you know what else? Often our bodies are changing on the inside even though it isn't yet reflected on the outside.

So, how do you keep yourself going if you're not getting big results just yet? One idea might be to give up your weight loss obsession and focus on getting healthy. Another idea is to see what other people have experienced on their weight loss journeys. Sometimes a reality check can help you settle into your program and take it day by day.

To that end, my poll today is for those of you who've lost weight and kept it off. I want to know...how long did it take before you started to see some results from your weight loss program? If you have any helpful tips for others out there trying to lose weight, leave a comment and share your wisdom.

Poll: When did you start to see results from your exercise program?

1. After 2-4 weeks
2. After 4-6 weeks
3. After 2 months
4. After 3 months
5. It took several months
6. Close to a year
7. Other - please explain in comments

Stop obsessing about the scale. Concentrate on eating right and exercise. I saw the results in the mirror before I got back on a scale.

Throw away the scale! Have a friend measure you with a cloth tape every 7 days. Measure thigh, deltoid area of arm, chest and waist, record results. Think healthy and thin will follow.

i “feel” results before i see them and i start to see results about 2 weeks, i see healthier skin, attitude, energy, and tone, you know what you see when you are doing it the right way, it might not be alot but when you look down and see a slight change you feel good! that just encourages you more and so on. i do weigh myself once a week i dont obsess. i mesure once a month, i am still encouraged! rock on if you are doing it right, and if not, you will next time, dont stop trying!

Depends on what you understand by “results” but I saw visible AND kilo number results after 2 weeks of diet and exercising. I exercised daily, either jogging in the park, or using my exercise treadmill when the weather outside was too bad to go out.

By the way, I found this site quite useful, hope it helps you too:

I lost 20 lbs, but gained them back when I got sever arthritis in my foot & developed trouble walking.
Any tips for that? I don’t have access to a pool.

After a week! I am not heavily overweight, so I saw results rather quickly! I gained muscle in my legs very quickly, and I lost fat very fast. I’ve lost up to an inch in a week!

Oh ya, I weigh myself seldom, and when I do, I am not critical. I just notice it and say “oh ok, that’s interesting” Because it could be muscle gain and weight loss. That’s hard to judge with a scale.
