National Wear Red Day

Friday February 1, 2008

Here's a scary fact: Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Though this has been in the news more and more, many of us still don't make the connection between women and heart problems, nor do we worry as much about our heart health as we should. One reason is that women often experience completely different symptoms than men, which makes it hard to diagnose.

Gee, that's no way to start a Friday is it? Well, let me make you feel a little better: You can protect yourself from heart disease and today is a great day to educate yourself because it's National Wear Red Day, a campaign created by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to raise awareness for women and heart disease. So, throw on something red and take a little time to learn what you can do to protect your heart:

OK, is it something “special” because women have heart disease too? Why can’t it be “wear red to raise awareness for women AND men heart disease”?
I am a heart surgery survivor, and you guessed it, a male, a white male. Should I take a back seat because this happens to women too?
This world is to full of special interest groups that simply alienates the white male.
White males get cancer, but do we have a ribbon for them? Nope. White males have heart issues, do we have a special day where we wear a particular color for them? Nope.
Everyone wants to be treated equal, unless it benefits you.

OMG! Men get breast cancer as well, so Pink and October isn’t JUST about women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, that is why they have a Wear Red Day, to bring awareness to the fact that Heart disease is the number one killer of women. What about December 1st, when Red ribbons are worn for AIDS awareness. Last time I checked, more men than women have AIDS.

Wow, didn’t know men got brest cancer. Guess we need a ribbon or color for that too.
My point was “equality”…

WHAT DOES IT MATTER? fEMALE, / OR MALE!

THE REAL PROBLEM IS HEART DISEASE! NOT IF YOURE FEMALE OR MALE, BUT HEART DISEASE AND HOW WE CAN PREVENT IT!

Sry about the caps, I just get so frustrated sometimes. I agree with 1969rs, why do women get special concern? Heart disease isnt biased,so either should we! By the way I am female, and a fiercely independent one at that, ( FEMINIST ) in case anyone needed to know. So, lets all do our part in preventing this disease. Thanks.

Actually, there are ribbons for men’s cancers. Prostate, testicular and even male breast cancer. Choose Hope, Inc. carries some of them. Check them out! www.choosehope.com
