Vote in This Week's Poll: How is the winter weather affecting your workouts?

Monday February 18, 2008

My mom called me from Nashville the other day to tell me they got their first snowfall. "It's so pretty!" She gushed. Hmmm. I vaguely remember when I thought snow was pretty...back before I had to shovel it every day in order to get my car out of the driveway. Now? It's looking pretty ugly.

Here in the midwest, we've gotten more snow and cold temperatures than even the natives can stand (I'm not a native, so I actually started complaining about the weather sometime in November) and people are getting cranky with the cabin fever we've been forced to endure. Because of the bad weather and cold temps, most of my workouts have been inside my living room with videos or on my treadmill and, after weeks of that, it's getting harder and harder to keep up the motivation to exercise.

What about you? How has the season affected your workouts? Vote in this week's poll and then leave a comment if you have some tips for getting through the winter.

Poll: How is the winter weather affecting your workouts?

1. My workout routine hasn't changed
2. I'm not working out as much because I'm bored and don't have as much energy
3. I'm working out more than I was before
4. I find it much harder to get motivated to workout
5. Winter doesn't affect my workouts at all
6. I've stopped working out because of the winter season
7. Other - please explain in comments

I’m so glad I’m not the only one having this issue. I told myself that I wouldn’t fall into the same old routine this winter, but with this weather has turned me into a shut in. I tried to keep my workout regular, but I had a month fall out. I spent all of January not working out at all. It was also the same time my job cut back my hours so I found myself at home more, cooking more… All my hard work seems to have been for nothing. I am currently trying a new low impact workout to get me back into the swing of things. I can’t say I’m as consistant as I should. At this point I’m just trying to move, period. :P

When the weather is bad I workout at home with dvd’s & weights rather than get on the road . It’s not always a full workout though & my body knows it.
