Vote: Do you blow it on the weekends?

Friday April 25, 2008
I was just reading Shereen's great article about eating a healthy diet on the weekends and it got me thinking about how easy it is to eat one's self into a coma come Friday. We all need something to look forward to, a reward for working hard and being good all week. For many of us, that reward involves eating and drinking all the things we've deprived ourselves of all week.

That feeling of being deprived is one thing that drives us to go a little nuts--one reason to treat yourself a little throughout the week. My husband and I have pizza on Friday nights and, strangely, that's usually enough to keep me going throughout the week - that and a little vino, of course. But, I'm curious about you. Do you blow your diet and exercise on the weekend or do you try to keep it healthy? Vote in the poll and tell us about your weekend habits.

Poll: Do you blow your diet on the weekend?

1. Yes - I eat whatever I want all weekend
2. I treat myself, but I try not to go overboard
3. I plan for my treats over the weekend
4. No - I eat the same way that I do all week long
5. Other - please explain in comments

I usually eat better in weekends. My breakfast and dinner meals don’t change but since I can cook my lunch at home on weekend I am able to make healthier chioses.

I usually eat pretty good on the weekends. I schedule how many sweets I am allowed per day. Unless I am having a stressful day.

Thursday is my “blow-it” day, since I weigh in on Thursday morning. That way, it’s easier to behave myself the rest of the week.

I have a hard time eating on the weekends. I will often forget to eat until late in the evening and by then it’s too late so I just go to bed.

Things don’t change much on week-ends. I’ve started eating smaller meals throughout the day anyway and when we go out, I try to bring half home to make at least two meals.

I actually try very hard to be even more health concious on the weekends because I actually have time to prepare food! If I can fit it in…on Sunday I will prep some fruit and veggies for salads… ALSO..a major motivator for me is staying in touch with my online communities..I find so much support! I have a favorite women’s site http://www.traxee.com where i know I can go specifically for Q/A…and spirit pertaining to women…I probably eat worse during the week…working long hours…you tend to pick up to go food or snack..Best wishes people+

I think the whole “being good” versus “blowing it” mentality is precisely what sabotages so many of us. I know it did me for years, decades even.

Recently I’ve learned to ditch the neurosis and practice moderation all week long–and it’s working!

Folks, don’t buy into the “Blow it day” marketing. Everyday counts and if you want to be healthy forget the word “Diet”. Start using the words “lifestyle change” And as bad as you might hate it, exercise and good food habits are the key, period. Find a way to exercise an hour a day. Find something that is really fun to do like riding a bike. If you like your exercise you will find excuses to do it, if you hate your exercise you will find excuses not to do it… simple huh.

If it grows on a plant or tree, walks or swims its probably ok to eat it, of course prepared right. Lose all processed, boxed, canned, etc food. If it comes through the window of your car, forget it!

Good luck
