Exercise of the Week - Lunge Slides

Tuesday April 29, 2008
Lunge Slide - Lunges engender love/hate feelings for many of us. We love them because they work so many muscles--quads, glutes and hamstrings. We hate them because they're hard. Hard or not, they're great for your legs. In this version, I've changed things up by using a paper plate under the back foot. This allows you to slide back into a lunge, then slide the foot back, which fires different muscle fibers and makes the exercise feel a little different.

Do it right: Rest one foot on paper plate and bend the front knee while sliding the back foot into a lunge (Keep the front knee behind the toe). Press into the floor to slide back to starting position. Repeat 8-12 times. Switch legs and repeat.
