Staying Fit During Back-to-School Chaos

Wednesday August 20, 2008
I can always tell when school is starting. I look out my window and see groups of hunched-over, depressed-looking kids slogging down the sidewalk on the way to school. The sight makes me stop and think - Gee, I'm glad I never have to go back to school.

But, back-to-school craziness doesn't just do a number on kids, it also affects parents as schedules change and hours get filled with everything from football practice to piano lessons. It's easy to let exercise slide when things get busy, but you may be better off working exercise in from the start. You'll find some tips for how to do that in my latest article about staying fit during back-to-school madness.

If you have any tips for staying fit and active this time of year, leave a comment!

even though it gets you out of bed in the morning, i find that exercising before the day begins helps keep me in shape during the school year. also making better choices about what foods you eat and in what amount is important. i am not talking about a diet i am just saying that it helps to watch what you eat.

Getting up in the morning could be impossible during the winters.

I usually prepack my workout stuffs and bring it to school, so I can just head off to gym or the track for a jog right after school. I find that once I reach home, I can never persude myself to get out of the house again

And I do watch what I eat during school years much more carefully, since I have to eat out more often (school cafeteria, night outs and there’s always more snacks around when you’re with friends). I tend to under-eat when I’m outside, so I can make up for the calories with healthy food from my fridge when I get home.
