New Book Review: Strength for Life by Shawn Phillips

Wednesday October 15, 2008
I've read a lot of books about exercise and weight loss and, after awhile, they all start to blend together with the same old information. I was actually excited to check out Strength for Life because I reviewed Shawn's previous book, ABSolution, which was excellent, and because I was familiar with Shawn's brother, Bill Phillips' famous book, Body For Life.

I wasn't disappointed. The programs offered in Strength for Life are similar to Body for Life, with a focus on heavy weights, multiple sets and HIIT cardio. Where it stands out is Shawn's focus on getting your mind in a better place, not just your body. This isn't the kind of program where you just jump in and start working out. You'll spend some time getting prepared, mentally and physically, for the program.

I think beginners will get a lot out of this, but veteran exercisers will find inspiration as well. For more, check out my review and leave a comment if you've read the book or if you have other book recommendations.

Hi Paige,

Thank you for taking the time to read and review my book. I can tell you really did the work that many others proclaim to or speed through.

I appreciate you for doing this. I’m glad that found it stimulating and fresh. It’s certainly a deeper cut that the classic Body for Life. It’s much more of an inside-out approach.

Also, it might be worth noting that it is similar to BFL but also quicker and less overall loaded with volume and time demands. I’ve calculated it to be 33% less time and set intensive than BFL but every bit the equal for results given the integration of the all important mental aspect.

Once again, thank you.

In Strength,
Shawn Phillips
