The Latest Fitness Websites and Gadgets
Friday October 17, 2008
I regularly get emails from people telling me about their new website/fitness gadget/book and I don't always have time to thoroughly review them all. Frankly, some of them are a little weird (an eye massager? Thanks, but I don't think so) but, sometimes I actually get something interesting.
Below are a few websites and gadgets that look fairly promising:
- My Pypeline: There are plenty of sites offering streaming fitness videos, but the key is finding one that offers quality videos at a good price. At My Pypeline, you can rent a video for $3.00 or you can buy it and download it to your MP3 player or iPod for $12.99. You'll need to browse through the workouts to see what they have, but it looks interesting.
- Freestyle Audio: This site offers waterproof MP3 players that are completely submersible up to 10 feet. This is perfect for swimmers who want to listen to music in the water.
- iStick: This is a magnetic fastening system for 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Nanos. You put your Nano in the holder and attach it to just about anywhere on your clothes. I have no idea how this works, but it looks pretty cool.
- Sleeptracker Pro: This is another one that I haven't tried, so I don't know if (or how) it works, but it looks sort of interesting. It's a watch that, according to the website, "monitors your body and continuously looks for your optimal waking times so it can wake you at just the right moment." It's expensive ($149 - $179), but may be worth at look.

The sleeptracker pro is a fine idea but in reality so few of us can really afford the lax schedule of waking up at the ‘appropriate’ time. I know I don’t even have a fifteen minute window –I have to get up at an exact time. Also, if we are getting enough sleep I think that our bodies set their circadian rhythms appropriately.
