The Latest Fitness Websites and Gadgets

Friday October 17, 2008
I regularly get emails from people telling me about their new website/fitness gadget/book and I don't always have time to thoroughly review them all. Frankly, some of them are a little weird (an eye massager? Thanks, but I don't think so) but, sometimes I actually get something interesting.

Below are a few websites and gadgets that look fairly promising:

  • My Pypeline: There are plenty of sites offering streaming fitness videos, but the key is finding one that offers quality videos at a good price. At My Pypeline, you can rent a video for $3.00 or you can buy it and download it to your MP3 player or iPod for $12.99. You'll need to browse through the workouts to see what they have, but it looks interesting.
  • Freestyle Audio: This site offers waterproof MP3 players that are completely submersible up to 10 feet. This is perfect for swimmers who want to listen to music in the water.
  • iStick: This is a magnetic fastening system for 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Nanos. You put your Nano in the holder and attach it to just about anywhere on your clothes. I have no idea how this works, but it looks pretty cool.
  • Sleeptracker Pro: This is another one that I haven't tried, so I don't know if (or how) it works, but it looks sort of interesting. It's a watch that, according to the website, "monitors your body and continuously looks for your optimal waking times so it can wake you at just the right moment." It's expensive ($149 - $179), but may be worth at look.
Do you have any experience with these websites and gadgets? Or maybe you have some suggestions of your own for unique fitness gear? Either way, leave a comment and tell us your experience.

The sleeptracker pro is a fine idea but in reality so few of us can really afford the lax schedule of waking up at the ‘appropriate’ time. I know I don’t even have a fifteen minute window –I have to get up at an exact time. Also, if we are getting enough sleep I think that our bodies set their circadian rhythms appropriately.
