In the News: Energy Products Recall
A utility knife blade was found in a vial of the Hardcore Energize Bullet drink and another in the New Whey. No one has been hurt, but the products have been recalled so toss them if you have them and be sure to report any problems you have with these products to the FDA.
Do you use these energy drinks or other energy drinks? There's plenty of controversy over these types of drinks because of the high levels of caffeine in them and the fact that young kids seem to be their biggest fans. What do you think about energy drinks in general? Leave a comment and tell us your thoughts.

Amen about the water Phil! Your absolutly right, they did say in the article that first of all people needed to drink more water. By the way fitness, the article also said not to even buy the sugar/carb drinks (bull, star..all others)not even their diet versions. They are unhealthy and taste like cough syrup. Sounds like you were either a victim of team, your a broke hater or have no clue. It’s ok though, the numbers speak louder then you.
It seems like an oxymoron to exercise, which is the purest form of getting fit and losing weight, and taking an artificial energy drink with a heavy caffeine base to boost performance during the workout. Personally, I think it’s mostly hype generated by entrepreneurs out to make a buck from the gullible public.
To me it’s as bad as eating a fat burger and fries and onion rings with a diet drink – whom are you kidding besides yourself?
I’m not opposed to drinking bottled juices and homemade smoothies with fresh fruits for energy. Excuse me, but the common sense side of diet has to be up there with the regular exercise.
I will drink a Red Bull once in a while for a pick me up for energy purposes and no, it does not taste like cough syrup. I believe once in a while is okay for the right reasons. Most of these tests are taken to the extremes in people verses once every few months.
More about the caffeine in energy drinks.
I have a major concern regarding the use of a stimulant to amp up one’s performance during a workout. Soreness and fatigue are a body’s mechanism for telling you to slow down or stop. The use of a stimulant will numb down the self-preserving signals of the body. Especially since the summer is just beginning and our bodies are not yet acclimated to the heat and humidity during outdoor workouts. Heat exhaustion is the issue, even for seasoned runners, since high calorie burn is the source of the problem.
There are other considerations regarding the intake of caffeine to enhance performance, even with the FDA’s declaration of caffeine as being “safe”:
1) As the effects of caffeine wear off, it’s like coming off a high – one may feel sluggish, irritable, and yes, fatigued (adrenaline). The hunger for more caffeine arises.
2) As the body becomes acclimated to the level of caffeine, it may take an ever-higher dosage to achieve the same level of effect.
3) The total amount of daily caffeine intake, when sufficiently high, may adversely affect normal sleep patterns (adenosine).
4) An increasing physical dependence on caffeine may develop (dopamine).
5) Possible increase of cortisol may occur with significant negative health consequences

I use Red Bull and Full Throttle from time to time, and only in the direst if emergencies. I have found them very effective and as a result, I do not indulge regularly for fear that I may become dependent.
Too much of one thing is good for nothing.
At one time I tried the 12 green tea for a gallon of green tea and I would want to sleep nearly all day so now I use only 4 bags per gallon and it gives me more pep so I avoid things which give me much too much pep since that makes me very tired. I wouldn’t drink this since I am not good with too much caffeine.
