I've gotten a few phone calls about that. I've even had one client call me in a panic because she bought her wedding dress 2 sizes too small thinking that would motivate her to lose weight.
It didn't work.
Losing weight for some event, whether it's a wedding, a class reunion or the prospect of seeing your ex at a party coming up is a common goal. Where it usually goes wrong is when we realize that the event is only days away and we have done nothing to prepare for it.
I'm addressing this issue in my latest FAQ, How can I lose weight fast for my wedding? The short answer is, nothing that will make you 2 sizes smaller if your wedding is only a week away. The longer answer is that there are a few (healthy) tricks you can employ to slim down a little before the big day and there are plenty of (unhealthy) tricks to stay away from.
Read more in my latest FAQ and please leave a comment if you have any tips for brides-to-be or grooms-to-be out there. Did you lose weight before your wedding and, if so, how did you do it in a healthy way? Are there any extreme measures you would caution others to stay away from? Do tell.

Depending on the time frame someone is working in, there are some simple ways to cut some quick pounds, or at least appear thinner in a short period of time.
Drink more water. Your body should naturally flush out excess fluid you might be holding.
Get a tan: Fake tan or solarium tan, they say a tan makes you look ten pounds lighter.
Increase your cardio: Try cardio first thing in the morning before eating and follow up with a high fibre, high protein breakfast. This will stimulate your metabolism for the day.
Prepare your nutritious meals in advance: If you have food with you, you may be less tempted to hit the vending machine.
Cut out dairy and breads: This is simple really, but getting rid of these two fat packers makes a huge difference not only to your appearance but your energy levels.
Avoid red meat: Or have only one or two red meat meals a week leading up to the event. Replace red meat meals with more fish and chicken
Paige,
Thanks for a great post. I think people can often overlook the salt and hydration as two great tips.
If you’re pretty close to your event you can’t expect a huge change but I’m also a big fan of Spanx, does wonders and I here the Hollywood types will double up and wear two pairs on the red carpet …

Hi. I know everyone wants some miracle. Miracles don’t happen when it comes to losing weight. Hard work is what is required to look extra amazing for your event. Push-ups! I got married this December, following Thanksgiving… and I managed to look awesome.
1) Push ups. They do wonders for your arms and chest. If you’re doing a strapless number… use weights for your arms about 6 weeks before.
2) Carry around “full-bars” so you dont over-indulge with your friends and family. They work. Believe me they do.
3) Drink LOTS of water — great for getting things moving through your system and to help promote clear skin.
4) Do a fat flush. You can lose a little bloat with one of these programs.
5) Go dancing — go to a hot club and party the night away with water. No one is going to really care if you don’t booze it up. Enjoy yourself with friends, get rid of pounds, and let loose of some stress while you’re at it!
Don’t be pressured to look a certain way. We all know that our significant other fell in love with us just the way we are!
eat small and often (every 4 hours when awake). Healthy balanced meals with minimal sodium content. Drink a lot of water and do combo weight/cardio circuits 4 times a week 30 min at a time. I did this and lost 9 pounds the first week. I have continued it and after plateauing I’m down 15 pounds and keeping it off about a month later. Don’t ever sacrifice health for weight loss because eventually your disregard for your health circles back around and you gain the weight back. If you are in decent shape already, running is the best way i know to burn fat quickly.
