It's that time of year again...time to learn whether the city you live in is fit or fat. Men's Health has completed their annual roundup of our cities, looking at: The percentage of overweight people, people with type 2 diabetes, percentage of couch potatoes, money spent on junk food and how many people ate fast food at least nine times a month.
So, who gets the honors this year for the fattest city? If you guessed Corpus Christi, TX, you get a gold star. Below are the top 10 fattest cities according to Men's Health:
- Corpus Christi, TX
- Charleston, WV
- El Paso, TX
- Dallas, TX
- Memphis, TN
- Kansas City, MO
- San Antonio, TX
- Baltimore, MD
- Houston, TX
- Birmingham, AL
I'm disappointed to see that my old stomping grounds (Memphis, TN) are in the top 10 and that my current city (Chicago) is number 22 on the list. Must be all the barbecue and Chicago pizza.
If you live in San Francisco, Burlington VT, Washington DC or Seattle, you're in the healthiest American cities. So, where do you fall? Is your city considered fit, fat or in between? What do you wish you could change about your city to make it healthier? Leave a comment and tell us what you think.

My city isn’t on the list, but I would give it a C-/D+. There are lots of outdoor enthusiasts here, lots of people who work out, but there are more fast food junkies and couch potatoes. I see fat or obese people more than I see thin or fit ones. I did just travel to SF and I am not at all surprised to see them tied at 100 with an A+. I’m envious of the whole lifestyle there. Congrats SF!
Not surprised to see my city at a C- (Anchorage). People seem to bundle up near the fire during the winter. I put the skis or snowshoes on and have fun.
