Best Ways to Exercise at Home

Exercising at home may seem like a convenient option and it is. You save money, save time and you don't have to worry about matching your clothes or combing your hair before you exercise (although not everyone worries about such things at the gym).

In some respects, however, it's not as easy as you may think, particularly if you're just getting started with exercise. First, there are plenty of distractions (some of us might call them 'reasons') that may tempt us away from exercise - Chores, kids, Facebook, picking lint off your sweaters, etc.

Second, your home gym usually isn't as exciting and energetic as the gym down the street. You don't have all those cardio and weight training machines to choose from and there are no other exercisers around to take your mind off your workout.

All that said, with a little effort, it's possible to create home workouts that help you reach your goals and don't put you into a coma. The main ingredient? Variety.

If you're stuck on how to workout at home, I have some ideas for you in my latest article, Best Ways to Exercise at Home. I've also created a list of my favorite home cardio exercises for your exercise pleasure, and I would love to hear about your favorites as well.

What about you? Do you exercise at home and, if so, what do you struggle with the most? How do you stay motivated and add variety to your workouts? Leave a comment and tell us how you exercise at home.

Half of my workouts are at the gym and the other half I do at home. The biggest challenge with my at home exercises is that i’m limited in weight. The gym has lots of heavy dumbbells. Sometimes I double up the dumbbells for added resistance or simply perform more reps. Of course I don’t have all of the cardio equipment either, but I do alright. It can get boring and you do have to get creative.

Some of the best full-body workouts are power yoga. My favorite teacher at the moment is power yoga workouts by Mark Gonzales. Definitely worth a try if you can find his videos.

We have a treadmill, Schwinn aerodyne exercise bike and Nordic Track elliptical. However, I prefer to jog outside, cycle on trails and walk/Nordic pole walk on trails. It’s more fun to be working out in nature, but in really inclement weather it’s good to have cardio equipment at home.

Its zumba and gold gym’s cardio work out for me at home. By the time I drive to a class, wait for it to start, take the class, then drive home, I would be finished at my home work out for a half hour. Home is just time saving althought an its always nice to take a class at the dance studio every once in a while.

I put a DVD on the computer usually Leslie sans one walking away the pounds. She has a 1,2,3 or 4 mile workout you can do and it works up a sweat. I also have sweating to the oldies which I don’t use as much. I am trying to find a Zumba DVD that doesn’t cost a lot. It’s fun, I am in my AC when it’s to hot to walk outdoors.

I’ve cruised the local TJ Maxx enough times to have acquired a few items that make my home workouts more substantial: exercise ball, mat, resistance bands, Pilates circle, medicine ball, and dumbells. Once I established a few home workouts there was never an excuse not to workout.

I find the best workouts at home are a circuit/bootcamp variety (Yours ROCK Paige!) where I am the weight. Some of the things I like about home workouts are that I don’t have to worry about packing a bag, traveling to and from, or the “did I remember my towel?” dilemma. I just get to it! I ignore the phone and give myself permission to grunt, pant and growl–all behaviors I feel self-conscious about at the gym. My cats are confused, but who cares!

(9) core exercises says:

The best of core exercises comes in handy in offering better stability and balance to your body while increasing the power and strength while reducing all risks associated with back injuries. Also, with these exercises, you can be sure of having some stunning kinds of six pack abs and increased weight reduction. The core movements makes the muscles strong around the area of the spine, thus reducing the back injury risks in training of weight while improving one’s athletic performance.

(10) Paul Murchison says:

Irrespective of how developed the abs become they will never be displayed under a layer of fat. Spot reduction is difficult…. think belly and obliques.
To show abs off requires loss of fat from fat accumulation areas, and the body usually has different ideas.A sane approach to nutrition, cardio workout, and abs comes across as a sensible approach .
Original body shape, minus desperate steps,is hereditory to a large degree and it may be pointless to expect miracles~~~~Murchovski.
