Fitness Round Up - Fitness Apps and More

As winter sets in and we find ourselves doing the same old workouts over and over, this may be the perfect time to inject something fresh and new into your routine. Here's the latest in fitness apps, workouts and more:

  • FitnessGlo Online Fitness Classes - There are plenty of streaming exercise sites out there, but this is one of my favorites. I used this a lot when I was traveling over the holidays, following a variety of workouts on my iPad in the dank privacy of my mother's basement. There are a huge variety of classes and you can find them by instructor, duration, type and level. There are some big name instructors on there including Amy Dixon, Michelle Dozois and Petra Kolber, just to name a few. You pay $12 a month to access all the classes you want. You can even schedule them on the online calendar.
  • StandApp - I haven't tried this one, yet, but I'm certainly going to. This free app gives you an alarm to remind you stand up and take a break. You can set the intervals any way you like and it also includes 15 simple exercises you can perform right at your desk. Considering the problems with sitting too much, this is the perfect app to stay fit this year.
  • XRT Obstacles - This is another app I haven't tried (and if you have, leave a comment), but it looks interesting. XRT, which stands for Extreme Reality Training, offers workouts that include bodyweight exercises in an obstacle-course-like format, so you can get a high intensity workout anytime, anywhere, with no equipment needed.
  • Motion Traxx BPM Club - I've raved about Deekron the Fitness DJ's incredible running/walking/workout music before and I'm going to do it again. Deekron's latest offering is The BPM Club. Sign up for month-to-month ($3.99 a month) or a yearly subscription ($47.88) and you get a new workout based on your chosen beats-per-minute every month. Which is awesome. You can change your chosen BPM at any time, giving you the option of creating your own collection of workouts to choose from. There's a sale going on until the end of January, so sign up now to get some savings.

What about you? Have you tried any of these apps or websites or do you know of anything new and exciting out there? Leave a comment and tell us what's keeping you motivated to exercise.

I like Vitogo (http://www.vitogo.com) for iPhone. It gives you a customized workout program and guides you through exercises with tips and videos.

I have to second Jen for the vitogo app. It’s easy to customize and the videos tell you exactly what to do. I also use the bpm club, just an awesome app. Working out without music just isn’t the same.
