Cable Oblique Crunches

Cable Oblique Crunches

Cable oblique crunches are a more advanced exercise that takes some time to get used to at first, but they can add some great variety to your abdominal workout. Cable oblique crunches primarily work the obliques and the upper portion of your abs because you are performing spinal flexion and rotation.

Instructions

  • Use a rope attachment at the top portion of a cable machine.
  • Step back and sit on your knees.
  • Flex your spine and curl your upper body downward to the left and to the right using your stomach.

Tips

  • Make sure you initiate the movement with your abs and don't cheat with your arms, shoulders, etc. or use momentum.
  • Concentrate on not returning to the starting position completely and releasing the tension. Stop just short of that.
  • After you adapt to this exercise, you can contract your stomach more intensely, but you should always resist and come back in a more controlled manner but not necessarily slow.
Demos are also available in Quicktime and Windows Media Player format.
