Cardio Focus: Interval Training

I know you can't WAIT for your interval workout. I hope you're changing things up a little by adding more intervals or just more intensity to the workout. Remember, you can do intervals with any type of machine or activity--just intersperse your regular workout with some high intensity intervals and you're on the right track. Choose one of the workout options below for your cardio workout:

Option 1: Treadmill Interval
Option 2: Speed & Endurance
Option 3: Choose your own interval activity by alternating high intensity and low intensity exercise for 20-30 minutes.

Strength & Flexibility:

Stretch after cooling down from your cardio.

Nutrition Focus: Portion Distortion

I'm sure this comes as no surprise to you, but just in case you missed it: Portion sizes have gotten larger over the last few decades. Shocking! Now, most of us don't even know what a normal portion looks like anymore. Lucky for you, you can take this quiz and learn more about how our food (along with our waistlines) have grown.

Motivation

You're nearing the end of the 12-week program and, if you've been getting in your workouts, you should be feeling pretty good about yourself. However, that doesn't mean that you suddenly acquire permanent motivation, right? Even if you're feeling better and reaching your goals, you'll still struggle with exercise at times. This week, we're going back to basics...namely, the benefits of exercise. Today I want you to focus on one of the best side effects of exercise: better quality of life. Take some time to day to appreciate how much stronger you are than when you started. Appreciate how much more energy you have, how your daily tasks have become easier and how much satisfaction you're getting from completing your workouts. Reflect on your quality of life today and see if it's better since beginning this program.
