Active
Recovery
<Back to Last Page> <Full Glossary>
Definition:
Recovering from an exercise using a low-intensity
activity. For example, during speed or fartlek
training a runner would sprint for a certain distance (the anaerobic interval)
and would then slow to a jog or walk (the aerobic interval) to recover.
This active recovery helps rid the muscles of lactic
acid, which causes soreness and fatigue.
