About Nutrition
Everywhere you turn there is somebody promoting the latest diet or nutritional fad that is the key to weight loss. It is worse now more than ever due to the Internet. These people quote scientific studies, have PH.D, M.D. and other lofty titles behind their names, and they use very scientific language for their conclusions. Apart from the authors and marketers of these fads, you may have well-meaning friends and relatives trying to convince you. How can the normal layman decipher nutritional fact from fiction? I have two excellent resources that will help you sort through all the hype.
Rick Hall is the About.com Guide to Nutrition.
He is a nutrition educator and consultant who specializes in Nutrition Wellness and Food
Service Management. Rick is a certified Food Service Director and Adjunct Faculty
Nutrition Instructor in Phoenix, Arizona. Rick is also a member of the American
Dietetic Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and two Dietetic Practice
Groups: Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN), and Nutrition in
Complementary Care. Mr. Hall also has a Dietetics Degree in Nutrition and Chemistry
from Northern Arizona University. At Nutrition
- About.com, you can subscribe to the weekly nutrition newsletter to stay informed on
the latest information on nutrition and diet, the latest fads, and much more.
Nutrition News Focus is put out by Dr. David Klurfeld, a Professor
and the Chairman of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at Wayne State
University in Detroit, Michigan. (Nutrition News Focus is not connected with the
university.) In addition, he is Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American College of
Nutrition, one of the top nutrition research journals in the world. Finally, he is
an active researcher in the area of nutrition and prevention of chronic diseases with over
130 publications in the biomedical literature in the last 20 years. At this website,
you can search their archive for past reports and sign up for their newsletter. You can read unbiased
reviews of things like food combining, The Atkins' Diet, and much more.
I highly recommend these two sites and their newsletter. Don't waste any time! Check out these two great resources before someone deceives you.
