The Best & Worst of Exercise in 2001
Part 2: The Worst of Exercise, Fitness & Health in 2001

Worst Exercise Trend
The Quick Fix.  This year more than ever we've seen gadgets and pills that promise fast weight loss in just 'minutes a day.'  Some pills even claim you can eat what you want, not exercise and still lose weight.  Repeat after me:  "There Is No Quick Fix.  I Must Exercise And Eat Healthy To Lose Weight." There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Worst Fitness Focus
Abs.  How many of you have been striving for rock-hard, six-pack abs?  This year, the abs were in the spotlight as ab gadgets abounded on television and thousands of people bought them in the hopes of getting the elusive six-pack.  Remember the previous paragraph?  There is no quick fix and spot training doesn't work.  You don't need gadgets, my friend. Do yourself a favor and nix the six-pack obsession.

Worst Fitness Gadget
The Cellulift.  This gadget claims to "smooth your whole body and leave you feeling relaxed and confident."  The truth?  Cellulite is just a fancy word for fat that doesn't look pretty at the surface of the skin.  This gadget goes into the Gimme-A-Break hall of fame, folks.

Worst Weight Loss Diet
Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. I know, I know....I'm going to hear from a few of you on this one.  But, experts know that eating too few carbohydrates can cause a condition called "ketosis" with side-effects such as bad breath and nausea. This diet lacks fiber and is higher in protein than healthy eating guidelines recommend.  There's a reason the Food Guide Pyramid is the guide for healthy eating.  Refresh your memory and forget diets.

 Worst Exercise Video
Anna Kournikova's Basic Elements.  If you want a serious exercise video, skip this one.  Anna Kournikova basically shows you how to do various exercises while loud, awful music plays in the background.  I suspect the fans of this video will be of the male persuasion, if you know what I mean (and I think you do).

Worst Fitness Website
The pigoutdiet.com.  'Nuff said.
