Dyenamic Movement Products, Inc. offers specialty stretch band products for dance, exercise, movement and physical therapy. Get on the Ball CD This CD comes with a small 'slo-mo' ball that can easily travel in your suitcase (deflated of course). The workout is an interesting combination of deep breathing, relaxation, stretching, basic yoga poses and strength exercises. The first workout is about 27 minutes long and begins with standing exercises (rolling a tennis ball under your feet), floor exercises (pelvic tilts and rolls while lying on the ball) and simple yoga poses, all done with deep breathing to relaxing new age music. It's easy to follow and very soothing, a perfect routine after a long plane ride. The second part involves more movement and is a bit more difficult to follow without any visuals. It's a low-impact workout in which you're encouraged to simply move--shifting from foot to foot, light running movements, lying kicks, etc. As I mentioned, it's harder to follow this without seeing the movements and, at times, it was difficult to hear her over the music. The CD ends with more deep breathing and relaxation. Depending on your preferences, you might find her affirmations ("I am becoming grateful for the health of my body") inspiring or slightly cheesy but they don't interfere with the workout. Kimberly Dye has a lovely voice and knows exactly how to cue the movements so you know what you're supposed to be feeling. She has an impressive background and her knowledge of the body is obvious as she carefully guides you through a relaxing workout. CoOperBand/ElastaBlast This is a huge bungee-like stretch band that can be used in a group exercise setting. The video shows how you can use the giant band to do yoga exercises, stretching and dancing with a large group of people. While it looks like fun, I can see this used more with children than with adults (which is probably why it won the Parent's Choice Gold Award). If you've got kids and want them to be more active, this would be a great choice--they'd have a lot of fun. Stretch-Eze This is like a giant resistance band, except it's made with soft spandex instead of rubber. The enclosed brochure shows several abdominal exercises you can do by wrapping the Stretch-Eze around your body so support your neck, back and shoulders. This makes the exercises much more intense as you're able to focus on the abdominals. The Stretch-Eze creates 'countertensional pressure or pull between upper and lower body' which puts your body in complete balance so you can better isolate the muscles you're working. You can also use it for various upper and lower body stretches. It's a bit difficult to master but, once you figure it out, it's a great way to stretch and strengthen your body. |
