Walking for Weight Loss

Walking sometimes gets a bad rap when it comes to weight loss since, as many believe, it just isn't a challenging enough exercise.  For example, check out a calorie calculator and you'll find that you have to walk twice as long as someone jogging to burn the same amount of calories.  Or do you?  The truth is, it isn't walking that's the problem...it's you.  Read More

  • What would help lower obesity rates? "I didn't vote.  None of them will help IMO.  People can be fed all the info in the world and it doesn't make a difference until THEY decide to make it matter.  I am a nurse and to be honest I don't really push it anymore.  I present the info and I can tell who cares and who doesn't.  I get all the time "oh I wish I could be slender like you.  How do you do it?"  But they don't want the real answer - they want the magic pill.  They don't want good diet choices and exercise at least 3 times a week.  They don't even want to walk around the block.   What they really want is someone to do it for them. They know obesity is bad for them, but many don't see themselves as obese, because they look like everyone else.  What they don't/won't see is everybody else is fat too."  LISA

  • How do I end a plateau?  "It's been that way for months.  I work one muscle group a day, I don't do a lot of cardio.  Each week I try to increase my weight and I can't.   I work myself HARD.  I'm not getting bigger, I'm not getting stronger.  I am getting a little more cut, but I'm already freakin' cut.  I'm 5'8", I need SIZE not definition."  REEFER94

  • Calorie Intake   "I recently did a BMR rating. It said I needed to eat less than 1558 calories if I wanted to lose weight (I believe) I have been keeping track of my intake for the past three days and I've noticed that I barely even make it to 1200 calories a day and that is if I eat 4 times a day.  It isn't easy for me to lose weight. could that be because I am not taking in enough calories and I am using everything I do take in?  I only want to lose about 5-10 pounds. I currently go inline skating 3 times a week for about 30-45 minutes and I do 5 different ab exercises on the days I don't go skating.  How can I lose those  5 -10 pounds?"  HEATHER
