Guide Review - Total Body Cardio
The Instructor. Kenn Kihiu leads this workout and may be the happiest fitness instructor I've ever seen. He has a blinding smile and is obviously having so much fun, it's hard not to have fun yourself. He doesn't do much cueing, but tends to shout out the dance moves without any explanation. Luckily, the moves are simple and don't require much guidance. The background exercisers show some modifications and one of the exercisers, Sharon Money Twombly, is a well-known video fitness instructor herself.
The Workout. This 45-minute workout routine includes a warm-up followed by a series of short aerobic segments, each of which includes a different dance move to a different song. But don't let the word "dance" scare you. The moves Kenn does are very simple to learn and he repeats them enough that you have plenty of time to practice them. Some of the moves include:
- The twist
- Salsa
- Hula-hoop hips
- Knee ups
- Arm waves and hip shakes
- Washing machine and light bulbs (this is one of my favorites)
The DVD. The DVD is divided into chapters so you can do the entire workout or pick and choose by dance/song. Also included are an 8-minute abdominal workout, a motivational segment and nutrition tips offering some basic advice.
The Bottom Line. This is an excellent workout for beginners or for anyone looking for a low-moderate intensity routine with simple moves and great music. Advanced exercisers may find it too repetitive.
