Do you need to lose weight? Your doctor is your best resource for assessing whether you're overweight, but there are a few measurements you can use to get a baseline of where you are. You might be overweight if you:
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 25
- Have a Waist-Hip ratio of higher than .8 for women and higher than 1.0 men
- Have an Abdominal Girth measuring more than 35 inches in women and 40 inches in men
Of course, there are other factors involved such as your height, frame size and body fat percentage, which is why it's important to get an individual assessment from your doctor if you're not sure.
