Definition: Exercise-induced asthma (EIA) is a type of asthma often triggered by exercise or physical activity. This condition causes intermittent labored breathing due to inflammation of the small airways of the lunges.

Some people only experience asthma during physical activity and may be more prone to it during cold weather or when the air quality is bad. Many exercisers find they can manage the condition by working with their doctors and using inhalers, as well as avoiding situations that trigger it.
