Guide Review - Guide Review: Healing Moves

Carol & Mitchell Krucoff's "Healing Moves" offers a refreshing look at exercise. Their approach? If you make exercise more fun, you're much more likely to do it. The book begins with an interesting introduction explaining a short history of exercise and how we've known for centuries how important it is for our physical and mental health. The first chapter goes into the basics about exercise, describing cardio, strength training and flexibility with a focus on FUN, urging readers to do what they enjoy--a refreshing change from many books out there which often focus on six-pack abs or thin thighs. In this section, you set goals (taking a readiness quiz) and then perform 5 fitness tests--push ups, sit-ups, walking, flexibility and then BMI. This section also includes standard strength and flexibility moves. The remainder of the book is divided into chapters covering: Metabolic Disorders, Mental Health Conditions, Orthopedic Disorders, Immunological Conditions, Men's Health, Women's Health and Respiratory Disorders. You can choose the chapters you like or read the entire book (which I highly recommend). Each chapter includes information about the condition, how exercise helps, an exercise prescription, cautions and then a workout that includes cardio, strength and/or mind body moves specifically for that ailment (called 'Healing Moves'). The writing style is casual and upbeat, providing inspiration and hope that we can all make our lives better.
