Definition: A carbohydrate is one of the three macronutrients (along with protein and fat) used by the body for energy. There are different categories of carbs including sugars, starches and fiber. Some dietary sources include sugars, grains, rice, potatoes and beans. Each gram of carbohydrates you eat contains 4 calories.
