Guide Review - Yoga Fan
The Yoga Fan, like the Training Fan I previously reviewed, is a practice guide that offers Yoga exercises for all fitness levels. The fan is organized by color according to postures. The first section provides instructions for using the fan, as well as some simple lessons on anataomy. The introduction also has a short glossary and provides basic guidelines for how to focus on the poses. Following that are preparatory poses (such as Cat Stretch and Supine Twists), Sun Salutations (with modifications), standing poses (such as Tree Pose and Chair Pose), forward bends, twisting poses (like the Revolved Lunge), back bends, arm balancing moves (such as Side Plank), headstands and relaxation. The exercises get increasingly difficult as you move into the balancing moves, which will appeal to more advanced exercisers, but there are modifications shown as well for beginner and intermediate exercisers. If you follow the entire series of exercises, you'll have a full 90-minute workout, but it's easy to put together your own exercises to fit the time you have. Overall, the Yoga Fan is an excellent tool to have, especially if you travel--you can take it with you and use it in your hotel room to get in a great workout. The only addition I'd like to see would be some sample workouts to help beginners determine which exercises they should include when making their own workouts.
