What Motivated Me to Start Exercising

About six months after having my second child I was asked to attend an step aerobics class with a friend at her church. I went and, to my surprise, really had a good time doing the class.

What I Did

Started out slowly with 3 step aerobics classes a week for about 3 months, then was asked to join a women's soccer team and did that for 4 seasons, and then finally worked my way up to teaching aerobics at my local fitness facility.

How I Did It

Started slowly and forced myself to go every day even when I didn't feel like it. I started with a simple step aerobics class and then after 3 months I progressed from 3 times a week to 5 days a week. I slowly started adding resistance training at about 6-8 months in and then ended up doing weight training after a year. I would also implement racquet ball and soccer into my workouts on the weekends. This is what lead to a lifelong commitment to exercise.

Lessons learned

  • Not to expect more of your body than your body is capable of. Every person has their own strengths and weaknesses. Learn what your strengths are and revel in them and work on your weakness to the best of your capacity.
