What Motivated Me to Start Exercising

I could feel myself becoming fatter and wasn't doing anything active. I was slowly creeping up into size 18 (my biggest yet).

What I Did

It began by asking my boyfriend (who used to teach karate) to run me through some drills. I didn't take it very seriously to begin with but I started exercising on my own. Then I made a weight loss challenge pact with a good friend who had also decided that it was time to get rid of the muffin top.

How I Did It

At first it was 3 days of the week but I didn't feel like I was exercising everything. I was very overwhelmed and didn't know where to start or what to do. I am also a student so I don't have a lot of money to spend on videos and websites that you have to pay for. Then I found a great fitness website. It gives you videos to do and a schedule to do them. Even after other sites I still find myself falling back on her exercises. I also used other exercises to fill in the gaps the first one had. Now I exercise (usually) five days a week. I am starting to try to do more cardio. I started at 190 and am holding at 175. My goal weight is 155.

Lessons learned

  • A little is better than nothing
  • Don't overdo it the first week so you hate exercising and won't continue
  • Cardio is anything that gets your heart pounding, including dancing like a fiend around the house
  • If you are tempted to eat something bad, ask yourself, "Would I rather eat that or be skinny?" If the answer is the food then eat it and don't beat yourself up about it but try to take the skinny option more.
  • Try to find a set time every day to exercise to make it a routine.
  • It's HARD at first!
