How much weight I lost

I happened to see a picture of myself at a friend's wedding and couldn't believe how overweight I was. I started the next day.

What motivated me to lose weight

Overall, I lost more than 100 lbs, but it took more than two years to get all the weight off. I also had times when I gained the weight back and had to start all over, but I never gave up.

How I lost weight

I started by working on my diet. Weight Watchers helped me learn more about portion sizes and the meetings were very motivational. I lost about 30 lbs and then hit a plateau. That was when I started exercising. I started by walking around my neighborhood. I couldn't do much at first and it was frustrating, but I kept going. After a few weeks, I started running and I printed out some of the beginner workouts from this site. That motivated me to hire a trainer, which changed everything. I still see her once a week and she keeps me on track.

Tips and Tricks

  • Give yourself rewards. It's so important to celebrate your successes, no matter how small they are.
  • Give yourself treats sometimes. It's easy to go overboard and only eat healthy foods, but that often leads to binging when you feel deprived.
  • Find some supportive friends. The women I met in weight watchers kept me going, even when I was having doubts.

Paige Waehner, Exercise Guide, says:

Great job, Angela! I love your tip about treating yourself. It's tough to stick with it when you feel deprived.
