What motivated me to lose weight

I have lived most of my life with a hefty body except for a few times when I had lost weight because I took diet pills, so I had pretty much resigned myself to a life of being big. But last year was a turning point for me. My husband lost a lot of weight and encouraged me to do the same by enrolling me in a gym with a personal trainer.

How I lost weight

My husband enrolled me at a gym with a personal trainer. I had a wonderful trainer who was very encouraging and knew a lot about fitness and exercise and he helped me to get on the road to fitness and health. I would go to the gym three times a week, doing 30 minutes of cardio, one hour of weights, and if time permitted another 30 minutes of cardio while waiting for my husband to finish his session with my trainer. My trainer gave me tips on dieting too. I have lessened my intake of white rice and white bread drastically and have switched to whole wheat bread instead. I have also given up soft drinks and just treat myself occasionally to sweets. I have taken to eating more fish and vegetables too. I try to eat 5 small meals a day to keep my metabolism up and to keep hunger at bay.

Tips and Tricks

  • It is never too late to start - just do it because it will do your health a lot of good!
  • It 5 small meals a day and don't skip breakfast.
  • Don't deprive yourself totally of the stuff that you like to eat - eat everything in moderation and treat yourself occasionally as a prize for your weight loss efforts.
  • Surround yourself with people who will motivate you and keep you going - weight loss is not easy.
  • Drink lots of water to keep you hydrated and feeling full.
  • For women, don't be afraid to work with weights. This helps a lot with fat loss rather than merely doing cardio.
