How much weight I lost:

100 pounds

What motivated me to lose weight:

unfortunately hearing you have type 2 diabetes! It was very depressing to hear but I want to be around for my husband and 3 sweet children.

How I lost weight:

I logged my food, ate six small meals a day and had no refined sugar. promotes lifestyle change versus diet. "Diet has a finality to it, "If you have a diet with an ending, what do you naturally do when it's over? Go out and splurge. But, if your brain does what I call a paradyne shift, you actually change the way you think about food and your relationship to it. You will change your habits for the rest of your life..

I even broke my ankle on both sides slipping on black ice Jan 2008. I had to have surgery and had 6 screws placed in the fibula. It took 9 months to heal from that fall. I did not let it stop me from reaching my goal. I was determined to keep going down on the scale even with my fall.

I worked out Five days a week, cardio mixed with weight training was my exercise routine. In January 2009 , I had a personal trainer Rebecca Carington sponsor me training sessions to get ready for the Mrs. Idaho pageant. It was wonderful having a personal trainer helping me reach my goal. I always say knowledge is power.

I competed in the Mrs. Idaho pageant after losing 100 pounds. It was such a wonderful experience. You need to have a platform when you compete in a pageant and so my platform is type 2 diabetes. I am now a diabetes advocate. I help educate on type 2 diabetes awareness. I am also a motivational speaker to help others reach their goals.

I run a web site http://getupandgetmvong.net Visit it and you can learn more about my journey.

I love my life and I love helping others in there journey to a healthier life.

Good luck!!

Tips & tricks:

  • Eat six small meals a day vs. 3 big ones.
  • Never starve yourself. You won't lose eight that way.
  • Be consistent
  • If you can, get a personal trainer, even if you can afford only once a week. The knowledge you will gain is priceless.
  • Gather support as you are losing the weight from friends and family to help be there for you through your journey.
  • Journal your food intake!Be patient with yourself. It did not take you a few weeks to put on the weight and it's going to take much longer then a few weeks to take off the weight. Keep in mind how happy you will be
