Whatever you like, then do that.

I advise people to choose something that you like doing, and do more of it. If new to exercise get medical approval. Resist doing too much too soon, in the first burst of your enthusiasm, and learn the meaning and importance of progression, and recovery.

Exercise Advice

I would say to try several areas of exercise & find your favorites, not just 1 thing like running. I get bored doing the same thing. I've started going back to old sports I once loved[horseback riding, archery, hunting] & have tried new ones like the Pistol club, rowing machine, treadmill & stepper. I keep radios, book tapes & a dvd player near all my machines. When I enjoy something I tend to stick with it longer, but I don't beat myself up if I have an off day or two. If you have a friend that shares any of your favorites, do them together but don't be limited to only exercising with your friend, especially in case they decide to drop it. If you stick with the exercise, then you can slowly re-do the food diet as well. I think people get too wrapped up in doing everything "right" & then stress out/quit when they become overwhelmed.

BELEIVE. Make a plan and stick to it

My best advice is think about your main goal, health, performance, athletic? Spend some time making a research and create a plan or listen to your personal trainer/coach. Make sure you BELIEVE in the plan and stick to it. Don't let anything become an obstacle to work on your plan.

No decisions for 5 minutes

When doing cardio, some days you don't want to start. My rule is it's okay to quit, but I have to start and do 5 minutes of exercise before I can make the decision to quit. After 5 minutes, I'm feeling better. I haven't quit a session yet, and I've followed this rule for 5 or so years.

Exercise advice

If I had to shed only one piece of advice regarding exercise it would be focus on the movement, almost as if you are meditating.

Do something you enjoy

Do something you enjoy doing, you are far more likely to stick to it. One of my Zumba students says that Zumba is the only class in 30 years of exercising she has ever stuck with! Then try to cross-train once you establish your exercise habit.

breathing & movement

Remember to exhale all the way through your lift and inhale during the lowering part. As for movement I tell people to always go slow and controlled throughout the movement.

results without injury

I have been battling my weight my whole life. I have much muscle definition and weight results from my method in the gym from "powering up." Start light, see what you're good for (you may surprise yourself) 3 sets of 20 reps, using a heavier weight each time. Also you have to do an hour of aerobic activity each day. There are no ifs, ands or buts ...its just the way it is to get a handle on your body.

Be carefull when you are older

I have a tendency to strain and pull muscles when I lift weights. This time I am changing the weight (I use machines) for each set depending how the previous set went. If the first set is hard, I take some weight off for the next set. If I feel good, I may add 5 lbs depending on how easy it was. This so far has kept me from straining or pulling muscles.

Best exercise advice

1. Every day with excercise is better than one without it. 2. Move -- NOW!

Get real

I was 55 and morbidly obese. My doctor said to get in shape or die young, and after denying my health, I got real! My BMI is 17, and % body fat under 10, and I'm 58. I became a Certified PT last year.

Exercise advice

Don't think about how hard you work during one hour of exercise; instead think about how much better you feel the other 23 hours of the day.
