In the Forum - When to Take a Break

Tuesday December 14, 2004
The only thing harder than getting beginners to continue exercising is getting veteran exercisers to take a break. One forum member knows what I'm saying, asking "...My husband is really ready to take a week off, but it scares me. I'm definitely addicted to exercise, but I don't want to do more harm than good." Come join the discussion and tell us what you think about taking time off from exercise.

I can totally relate to being addicted to exercise. I fear that if I don’t do it I will become fat and even if my legs hurt I push myself to do it. I think it’s a way to avoid other feelings and remain in control. Because being over weight always felt so messy and out of control. Being thin feels so opposite to me and I never want to go back to the old ways. If I feel myself slipping I get so scared. I weigh myself but it doesn’t always seem to be an accurate barometer for muscle must weigh more right? I hope so! I just had a surgery and lost about 5 pounds due to not being able to exercise and thus cut way back on eating. Now my apetite is ravenous since I have begun exercising again. I was so thrilled with the weight loss but now I’m just gaining it all back! Is this just a muscle gain or what?
I think maybe we are too obsessed with scales but it does help some what.
