Vote in This Week's Poll: What do you need to change to make your diet healthy?

Monday April 21, 2008

Trying to eat a healthy diet these days can be confusing. In fact, my husband and I often find ourselves in the produce section pondering which vegetables we should get - the broccoli for its antioxidants? Or maybe we should buy the asparagus for its fiber and potassium. I guess there are worst things to ponder, but it can get confusing when you're trying to get all the right things into your diet.

But, there are some basic rules we can follow to keep our diets healthy - things like drinking more water and getting more fiber into our diets. It's those kinds of things that many of us struggle with on a regular basis. I'm curious to know what you struggle with when it comes to eating a healthy diet. Do you eat out a little too much? Or maybe you find it tough to get all your fruits and veggies in each day. Vote in this week's poll and tell us what you could change to make your diet a little healthier.

Poll: What do you need to change to make your diet healthy?

1. Eating out less
2. Eat more fiber, fruits and veggies
3. Eat smaller portions
4. Drink more water
5. Drink less alcohol
6. Cut out the junk food
7. All of the above
8. My diet is pretty healthy
9. Other - please explain in comments

I eat well all day,,,until I finally sit down for the evening. I find myself wanting a snack and I’ll keep looking toward the kitchen, finally I’ll get up and get SOMETHING. If there is not enough of one thing I’ll keep eating and eating until I find something that satisfies my craving.
So I wish I could stop snacking in the evenings.

I need to cut down to 1800 – 1900 cal per day from food intake. Sadly I drink beer and so have a real battle on my hands. That’s OK I also burn 1200 – 1500 cal per workout five days a week.

What helps me to stay on track is not buying any junk and keeping it in the house. I cook all my food on the weekend even for our lunches. I pre-package veggie snacks, fruit etc. I make casseroles and other entrees in large quantities and my husband and I pack breakfast and lunch each day. We eat all day long but the calories are low because they are high in protein, and fiber and stay with you all day long. We eat even if we are not hungry every 3 hrs but they may be just snacks like yogurt or our veggie bags. This way we avoid eating out and wrong food.
