The Facts About Burning Fat

Thursday June 12, 2008
Whenever I hear the phrase 'burning fat,' the image that comes to mind is a person holding a blow torch to various parts of his or her body. I'm sure many of us have considered that as one way to get rid of stubborn fat, but I don't recommend it. What I do recommend is to learn a little more about how the body burns fat. Too often, we get taken in by experts who promise you'll burn fat by doing everything from taking a pill to sitting on a cushion that rotates from side to side.

The truth is, the only way to get rid of fat is to burn calories. You can certainly burn calories if you sit on a cushion and rotate from side to side, but you're much better off putting your energy towards more efficient, effective exercises. My latest article, The Facts About Burning Fat, offers some basics about how your body uses different types of fuel to burn calories (carbs, fat, etc.) and then talks about the different intensity levels of cardio exercise, giving some specifics for how each zone (low, moderate and high intensity exercise) offers different benefits for burning more fat.

I’ve never understood why people don’t understand the concept of exercise more, eat less to lose weight. If there was a magical pill, everyone would take it and no one would be fat. And you can find evidence of overweight people everywhere you go.

All I can say is that, Ive tried many diets and many pills. The only effective thing that works is excercising. Working out in the morning is the best. You burn 3 times as more on an empty stomach. People think that by taking pills and not working out, is goin to help them lose weight and see major results. WRONG! Working out is the best way. 10, 20, or 30 mins of cardio. That’s all it takes.

Exercise is always the way to lose weight. As a personal trainer I advise clients to eat before a workout. Something around 100 calories, yoguart, protein bar, etc.. It starts the metabolism and helps burn fat. Also, hydrate before, during, and after that workout.
Magic pills do not target areas for weight loss. Neither does zone exercising. The only way is to build muscle. One pound of muscle will burn approx. 50 cals.
