Beat the Heat with Indoor Workouts

Friday August 1, 2008
Walking outside this morning, I immediately noticed two things. First, there seemed to be no easy way of breathing the thick, humid air...is there even any oxygen in there? Second, there was no way I was going for a run in this muggy weather. Oh, and third, my hair looks like an electrified mop when it's this humid outside.

Weather is always a factor in outdoor workouts and, while many of us adjust to the summer time heat, there are just some days you should avoid exerting yourself outside...like today, I'm thinking. Having a few exercise videos or indoor workouts available can help you stay fit when it's hot. The key to making indoor workouts interesting and fun is to give yourself plenty of options for what you can do. To that end, I've gathered some resources from some of our best Health Guides to help with those indoor workout ideas:

You can find more workouts at my Workout Center. Stay cool and have a great weekend!

That is so true!! It is such fun to be able to vary your indoor workout so it does not get boring. I once had a heat stroke working in the yard during high heat/humidity and it seems that I haven’t been able to handle the heat for long periods since then. So, I chose to make an indoor workout area with a variety of options for workouts. I have a mini-tramp, a weight machine, ball, bands, yoga mat, and hand weights, as well as videos. It really helps to vary the workouts so boredom does not set in.

I love getting a workout outdoors, but you have some great ideas. Sometimes it’s just too uncomfortable to be outside, sometimes it’s dangerous. Excessive heat and pollution are major concerns. The teadmill workouts are great! Sometimes I forget about changing the incline. Keep up the great articles.
