What's Hot in Fitness

This week, I got a variety of interesting emails about new fitness programs and products and thought I'd share my favorites:
  • FitDeck Mobile App: This iPhone app, FitDeck Bodyweight, is based on the FitDeck card game. If you haven't heard of it, it's a deck of playing cards displaying different exercises, so it isn't so much a card game but a way to kick your own butt whenever you like. The iPhone app is just as awesome as the cards and well worth the download. Some of the basic features include a timer for many of the exercises, the ability to rearrange your workouts at will and an exercise log to track your workouts.
  • Intervals App: This is another cool app that is perfect for anyone who does lots of interval training. You can set the number of intervals you want as well as the intensity and a sound plays whenever an interval ends. What's also cool is that you can change your music or take a call and the interval timer keeps running in the background.
  • Metabolic Makeover: My favorite email this week was about Dr. Vincent “Ben” Bocchicchio's program that "forever alters a person's metabolism." His program involves seven circuit training exercises, which is fine, but what made me laugh was that the cardio workout isn't actually a workout. Instead, cardio exercise is simulated by an ECP system. This system, which is sort of like placing blood pressure cuffs on your entire body to stimulate blood flow, is a legitimate medical device use with cardiac patients, but is it really "more effective than an intense cardio workout" as he claims? I'm sure you can guess my opinion on that.

Have you heard of anything new lately? If so, leave a comment or let us know about it.

There are actually only a few gadgets that are helpful in real life- like a pedometer, because when wearing it people start to realize how little they are moving and they see the progress instantly.
No gadget is a substitute for sweating…
