New Wii Reviews: Zumba Fitness and Gold's Gym Dance Workout

By February 24, 2011

Follow me on:

Wii Exergames can be fun, but do they really give you a good workout? I've reviewed a number of Wii-kouts, some offering great workouts, such as EA Sports Active as well as the sequels, More Workouts and EA Sports Active 2, and others were on the lame side (Daisy Fuentes Pilates for Wii comes to mind).

The latest craze in more dance-oriented fitness has sparked an explosion of Wii dance fitness games, but do they live up to the hype? That's what I look into in my latest reviews, which cover Zumba Fitness for Wii and Gold's Gym Dance Workout. My dancing skills (which are laughable most of the time) were definitely challenged by these games and my cats learned quickly to leave the room when the Wii controllers came out, but making a fool of one's self does burn calories. You can get the full details in my reviews of Zumba Fitness for Wii and Gold's Gym Dance Workout.

Be sure to leave a comment about your own experiences or, even better, you can post a detailed review of Zumba Fitness or Gold's Gym Dance Workout for all of our readers to enjoy.

We were deciding whether to buy a Wii or XBox and Kinect and ultimately decided for the Kinect. It’s hands-free, measures full-body movement, and incredibly fun! I use Dance Central and Fighters Uncaged for XBox Kinect, and they’ve been a great cardio workout. I also tried Dance Masters, and it works more like the Wii where it measures just a few of the movements and makes sure they align at the right times–easier than Dance Central, and less intimidating if you don’t want to be measured for full choreography.

I purchased the Zumba for Wii, when it first came out. I thought I was fairly fit, but had difficulty doing a complete routine on the Zumba game. I had never attended a Zumba class before I purchased the game. Because I have taken many dance classes, the steps were not difficult, but again, it was tough to keep pace with the Zumba dancer onscreen. When I finally attended a live Zumba class, I had no problem doing a whole class. I do like the game, however, it could use some better navigation controls.

I just purchased the Move’s Zumba fitness and Dance Dance Revolution, the Move is similar to the Wii but a little more advanced in terms of technology. Amazing, I have lost 2lbs in just one week..that and eating right can be a killer combination.

Love the fact that these games are starting to reach out to the country that needs it the most. Rock on gaming people…rock on. Remember it’s about a lifestyle change, not just a fad for 2 weeks. Find something that works for you and stick with it. I finally realized this after losing 70lbs and getting in the best shape of my life at the age of 36. I love being a “fit dad”.

Thanks for your article about Healthy Lifestyle. Today I was reading a related article about diets weightlossfavorites.com/fat-burning-furnace/ and it seems to agree with you in some aspects.
I believe dieting is really important to have a healthy live, wouldn’t you agree?

I just recently purchased gold’s gym dance to complement the gold’s gym cardio boxing (i love that one!!). i find it fast paced but not unreasonable. It’s really fun for the short amount time and you can tag on workouts ot make it as long as you like. My only complaint so far is the running side game (running from the lions) i haven’t been able to get that one down yet, doesn’t matter how fast i swing my arms i don’t run any faster. Has to be a trick to that, but otherwise its a great add-on to activity in my day.

As a long time distance runner, I discovered that developing a good, strong dance routine was an excellent cross-training workout…not to mention what it did for me body-wise. Absolutely GREAT for core development and lower body agility. Didn’t have Zumba or Gold’s Gym. I just burned 1-2 hours of my most favorite jammin’ tunes I could find onto cd, set up my workout place with full body mirror, pumped up the volume and went to work! Such fun! You have to learn to just let go and let your body take over. You also have to accept that fact that with being able to carry out a great, calorie burning workout in the privacy of your own home leaves you very little excuse not to get fit. Even on rainy, hot, humid days, a great dance workout will take you to another level of positive energy. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what you use–Zumba, Gold’s, or BYOM (Bring Your Own Music)… just get out there, get it done, and have a blast, all at the same time!

I purchased my ZUMBA for wii during Thanksgiving and I LOVE it. My daughter workout with me and we have a blast. I wouldn’t trade it for a gym membership because memberships are OVER RATED.

To really experience Zumba and get a great workout – don’t play games. Go to a fitness center that has certified Zumba instructors and you will enjoy a great workout with lots of fun.
I’ve been to 5 different fitness centers- using 12 different certified Zumba instructors – they were great!

I was listening zumba music but its not fast enough beat for intense workout. Its more for a normal workouts, aerobics perhaps.

I really enjoyed reading your blog about Zumba. I have been loving doing Zumba for the last 2 months and it never gets boring. It is the most enjoyable way to keep fit, and there are always new routines to learn. Zumba toning is a new concept i had never heard of, but it sounds amazing!! I will be following this blog from now on. Thank you.
