Exercises of the Week - Relaxing Stretches

By December 28, 2011

Follow me on:

With so much going on this week - recovering from Christmas and preparing for the new year, I'm thinking a little relaxation is in order. Below are some of my favorite stretches for targeting the hips, lower back and your mind, which may need a little quiet time.

Pretzel Stretch

Cross the left foot over right knee. Clasp hands behind right thigh and gently pull the leg in towards you, keeping upper body relaxed. Hold for 30 seconds and switch sides.

Cat Stretch

This is a great release for your back, moving back and forth as your round your back to the ceiling and then arch your back, getting a stretch in the chest. Repeat for 10 or more reps.

Corpse Pose

This is perhaps the most relaxing stretch because it's a lot like lying down for a nap. The idea is to let your entire body relax as you close your eyes and breath deeply. Hold for as long as you can.

What are your favorite relaxing stretches? Leave a comment and tell us how you like to stretch and relax.

Thanks, when traveling during Holidays don’t have time to workout, but streching before going to bed is a great way to relax and feel better after all the eating. Thanks for the tip.
