The best thing about spring, aside from warmer weather, is updating your workout wardrobe. I have to say, spring is the best time to buy workout clothes because the offerings tend to be bright and colorful -- a perfect way to bounce into a new season. Here's a list of my favorite picks, from tops and shorts to shoes and socks, both for men and women. Happy shopping!
While I'm not the trendiest person, one of the trends I'm definitely into is the fitness skort. Skorts (skirts with fitted shorts underneath) are such a great choice for exercise. They're flattering and comfortable, giving your body room to move while wicking the sweat away from your skin. They're also cute enough to wear outside the gym.
Isn't it funny how women's shorts get shorter and men's get longer? These Nike shorts are a man's basic staple item for just about any workout. They're made of Dri-FIT material that's both stretchy and comfortable, and they look good on just about anyone. My husband has a pair and loves them for both running and handball.
Spring weather is a little iffy, and mornings can often be a little cold. The problem is, if you wear too much, you get too warm. That's what makes this seamless running top perfect for spring weather. Wear it under a jacket, and it will wick away sweat while keeping you warm. If you get too hot, you can take off the jacket and still get protection. This top is one of my favorites because it's seamless and it also has an iPod pocket.
My husband always wears old, ratty cotton tee shirts when he works out. At least, he used to. Now that he's tried shirts of the sweat-wicking variety, he's hooked. This one is one of his favorites because it's light, he can wear it under a jacket during chilly weather, and it keeps him warm and dry on cold mornings. This is the perfect layering piece for spring weather.
Now, I realize we all have different needs when it comes to choosing the right fitness shoes. But, I have to say that the Adidas Supernova's are the best running shoes I've ever found, and I highly recommend them for runners who like light, cushiony shoes. The Supernova also comes in a motion control version for people who have
pronation problems. You can find an
excellent review of the Supernova at ConsumerSearch.com.
It's hard to find a quality pair of snap-off workout pants, so I was delighted when I came across these. As a personal trainer who often goes straight to my own workouts from client sessions, these are essential for me and for anyone else who wants to stay warm in the brisk spring air on the way to the gym. They're 100% polyester, which isn't my favorite thing, and their side snaps work like a charm.
Maybe it seems like I'm a little too fond of Adidas, but what can I say? They make good, basic workout gear and sell it for a decent price. These men's tear-away pants are great for chilly workouts. Just wear some shorts underneath, and pull them off when you get too hot.
If you've spent any time on this site, you probably know how much I love Thorlo socks. Sure, they're pricey -- but they are worth it. They provide great, cushy comfort and last a long time. These crew socks are my latest favorite and well worth the cost, no matter what activity you engage in.
I've had the hardest time finding a decent jacket that offers protection without suffocating me. That's why I'm really enjoying this Adidas wind jacket. It's loose-fitting, breathable, comfortable and wind/water-resistant. If you're exercising outside during iffy weather, a good jacket is essential. This one will give you the protection you need without making you too hot.
This wind jacket is my choice for men because it's very light and breathable. This is perfect for your top layer and will even protect you from rain while keeping sweat off your body.
