Guide Review - The Athletic-Minded Traveler
Jim Kaese & Paul Huddle, authors of 'The Athletic-Minded Traveler' ask an important question: Do you workout when you travel? For many of us, we'd like to if it were just a little easier. Now it is with this book, which provides all the information you need to choose a hotel that fits your budget and exercise needs. The book is divided by popular travel destinations in alphabetical order with a list of hotels, each one ranked according to fitness amenities available. There's a brief summary of each hotel which includes info about the rooms, interesting restaurants and what kinds of fitness activities are available. The fitness information includes: Cardio (kinds/types of machines), strength training equipment (machines, dumbbells, etc.), swimming (size of the pool, funk factor etc.) and other tidbits like cost and pool hours. I love the personal touch--these guys really did visit all these hotels and they don't beat around the bush when they hit a dud. This is the kind of travel guide hard to find, not only because it's focused on active people, but because there are real opinions included to help you decide if you want to stay in a place that offers "an uncomfortably petite workout room" or one with "cutting edge strength equipment." For each location, they also include running routes, which is simply awesome if you're a traveling runner, like me. An excellent book to have if you like to travel and exercise all at the same time.
