What motivated me to lose weight
Health reasons... My doctor told me that I needed to lose some weight in order to heal a fatty liver. In addition, I just wasn't feeling well over all and needed to make a lifestyle change.
How I lost weight
Fitness Changes
I used to be a couch potato and never really exercised since my late twenties. I am now forty one. Three years ago, I started by walking 10,000 steps a day (tracked through a pedometer). I progressed to playing soccer and weight training three times a week combined. Now I play soccer three times a week, lift weights twice a week and run 5 to 10k another three times a week.
Nutrition Changes
I cut coffee and alcohol out of my diet for six months. Now I have a maximum of 5 coffees and 5 alcoholic drinks per week. I gave up high fat processed snacks (chips, cookies, cakes). I eat healthy foods and I eat smaller portions more often. I eat at least 6 small meals a day (lots of vegetables, fruits, a bit of natural nuts (almonds and walnuts, skim milk, yogurts, protein-rich foods).
